Why choose the genuine Brother BT-D180Y ink bottle

The BT-D180Y is the genuine yellow ink bottle of the BT-D180 range, for Brother printers with built-in ink tanks (DCP-T / MFC-T series). Genuine Brother ink, formulated for the print head of these models: faithful colors, fast drying, no clogged nozzles. The black is a pigment ink (sharp, water-resistant text), the colors are dye inks.

One capacity only

The BT-D180 range comes in a single capacity for this color (5,000 pages).

Printers compatible with the BT-D180Y

The BT-D180Y is compatible with 3 Brother models (manufacturer list):

DCP-T58xx series
DCP-T580DWDCP-T583DW
DCP-T78xx series
DCP-T780DW

Check the exact reference on the label at the back or underneath the printer; the suffixes (W, DW, CDW) matter.

Page yield

5,000 pages according to ISO/IEC 24711 (5% coverage per color, letter-type text). Photos and solid color areas use far more; part of the ink is used for automatic print head cleaning. The cost per page shown next to the price is calculated from the current price and this yield, excluding paper.

Installation and maintenance

Mess-free filling: open the tank cover, remove the cap of the tank to fill, remove the bottle cap, place the bottle nozzle down on the inlet (keyed by color) and wait until it empties; the flow stops by itself when the tank is full. Close the cap and the cover. Refill as soon as the tank level drops below the minimum mark; the printer also shows an alert. A lightly used printer stays in good condition if it is left plugged in and prints a color page every two weeks. Empty bottles are recycled with plastics.

Use and tips

The BT-D180Y bottle suits intensive or shared use: 5,000 pages, i.e. over 4 years at 100 pages per month and about a year at 300 pages per month.

Refill the tank as soon as the level drops below the minimum mark, without waiting for it to run dry: the head must stay primed. Keep the printer plugged in and print a color page every two weeks. Store bottles upright and capped, away from heat and sunlight; an opened bottle keeps until the next refill. Genuine ink protects the print head and the Brother warranty.

Frequently asked questions

Is the BT-D180Y compatible with my Brother printer?

Yes if it appears in the list above (DCP-T580DW to DCP-T780DW). If in doubt, compare the exact reference of your printer, suffix included.

How many pages does the Brother BT-D180Y print?

Up to 5,000 pages according to ISO/IEC 24711 at 5% coverage. The actual yield depends on the type of documents; photos use far more.

Do I need to replace all bottles at the same time?

No. Each color is replaced separately when the printer reports it empty; the others keep working.

How should an unopened bottle be stored?

Flat, in its packaging, away from light and heat; preferably use it before the date printed on the box and within six months after opening.

I rarely print: will the ink dry out?

The printer runs automatic cleaning cycles if it stays plugged in. Printing one color page every two weeks is enough to keep the nozzles in good condition.

Can I refill the tank with a partly used bottle?

Yes. The bottle closes with its cap and keeps for the next refill; the flow stops automatically when the tank is full.

Where can I find the safety data sheet (SDS) for the BT-D180Y?

On our Brother support page: safety data sheet for the BT-D180Y in your language, manuals and FAQ for the compatible printers.
