Why choose the genuine Brother TN-242CMY value pack
The TN-242CMY is the pack of the three color toners in the TN-242 range. Genuine Brother toner powder, matched to the DR-241CL drum and the fuser of these printers: sharp text, even solids, no leaks and no "toner not recognized" message. Toner powder does not dry out, so a printer used intermittently keeps the same print quality.
3-color pack or separate cartridges?
The TN-242CMY pack contains the three standard toners (1,400 pages each) at a lower price than the cartridges bought separately. It suits printers whose colors run out at about the same time. Black is not included: TN-242BK (2,500 pages).

Page yield
1,400 pages per color according to ISO/IEC 19798 (5% coverage, letter-type text). Graphics-heavy or bold documents reduce the actual yield. The cost per page shown next to the price is calculated from the current price and this yield, excluding drum and paper.
Installation and maintenance
Tool-free replacement: open the front cover, pull out the drum + toner assembly, unclip the old toner, insert a cartridge from the pack and put the assembly back. The DR-241CL drum is a separate part rated for about 15,000 pages; the printer signals when it needs replacing. On these color models, the BU-220CL belt unit and the WT-220CL waste toner box are also separate parts (about 50,000 pages). Used Brother toners can be returned free of charge through the Brother recycling program.
Use and tips
The TN-242CMY suits a lightly used printer (letters, a few documents a week): each cartridge (1,400 pages) lasts about 5 months at 300 pages per month and about 1 months at 1,000 pages per month.
Store the cartridge in its original packaging, flat, away from direct light and humidity (0 to 35 °C), and unpack it only when installing. At the "Toner low" alert, plan the order: the printer keeps printing until "Replace toner" (the "Continue" menu setting extends printing further). The driver's toner save mode suits drafts; genuine cartridges preserve the printer's Brother warranty.
